Underneath the coastal cliffs, the water dragons nest in their subterranean cavern. The giant expanse has a silent, shimmering glow: blue-green sunlight filters through the cracks in the moss-covered ceiling, piped down into the depth by columns of falling water. The rich muck and slimy walls are home to a variety of organisms and luminescent fungi. Even shrubs and trees have started to grow, giving rise to a population of fireflies. In the midst of it all, the mineral-rich rock has formed crystals, which the dragons harvest for their nests. When the tide is at its height, water trickles down in a million small waterfalls, and the drakes take wing to bathe under the gentle, warm waters.
The scenery was partially inspired by the classic must-play game Exile: Escape from the Pit (by Spiderweb Software), which now is redone as the Avernum series with better semi-3D graphics. This is the wallpaper I use on my iMac (the hemispherical computer that looks like a desk lamp). Please enjoy.
